James asks…

How much will motorcycle insurance cost me?

I do not want to get a quote online or over the phone because i do not want them calling, emailing, and sending me mail. I am a 20yo male, been licensed to drive a car for 2 years. I have a clean driving record. I am going to take a Motorcycle Safety Course. I live in Orange County, CA (Westminster….92683). I am not sure of the motorcycle i am going to get yet but it will have between 250cc and 500cc. It will be a 4 years or older used motorcycle. And it will be either a sport bike or a cruiser. Approximatelu how much will insurance cost me per month?

Administrator answers:

Typically motorcycles insurance is fairly cheap because in most states it is not used through the entire year and they are not that expensive to fix.

As far as determining your rate, it will depend on what type of coverage you want and how many accidents happen around your area, your age, and the type of bike it is.

I can’t give you an exact quote, but I’ve been riding since I was 20 and I lived in Maryland at the time. I only paid about $395 a year for insurance for my bike. Now I live in PA and I have it insurance for $19.00 a month or $228 per year

Jenny asks…

How much do you pay for motorcycle insurance for a year?

IM an 18 year old guy. I am planning to buy a honda cbr600rr over the summer and am just wondering how much it is roughly insurance wise for a sport bike?

Administrator answers:

I’ve got the same bike (2003). I live in southern CA, i’ve had my license for 5+ years now, i’m 32, and have only basic minimum coverage required by CA law, and i pay ~$800/year. I started off paying ~$1500/yr when i first started riding, and that was on a ninja 500.

Just call around some reputable companies in the area you live for a quick quote. Premiums vary greatly per company, even in the same area

Joseph asks…

Why is motorcycle insurance insane for everything but cruiser types?

I called Geico and they quoted me on a bunch of motorcycles. Cruisers were the only reasonable ones, but I thought the other types (sport, standard, touring, offroad) that I got quotes on were riduculously high! I even asked about the ninja 250 and that was 4 times the amount of a 750 shadow. How is that possible?

Administrator answers:

Unfortunately, Geico did not really tell you the complete background on their insurance rates which are primarily geared to how old is the motorcyclist and the number of years that the motorcyclist has been driving without any significant accidents or insurance claims. If you are at least 26 years of age and have been licensed to to drive a motorcycle since 18 years of age, your initial insurance coverage will be substantially quite lower than someone under 26 years of age who is just starting out driving a motorcycle. For example, I currently drive a sports bike, a BMW R850R and a early model Honda Elite 150CC scooter and the total coverage for both bikes for only public liability is $165.00 per year. And the insurer is not Geico but McGraw Insurance Services (800-303-5000).

I can only conclude that motorcycle insurance is still truly a bargain priced item which becomes more affordable once a motorcyclist becomes of age, that is, over 26 years of age.

Good luck!

Administrator answers:

The *only* way to get an accurate quote is to go through an insurance company – all anyone here can do is make a wild guess.

It depends on your detailed driving record, credit history, do you own a home or rent, any discounts you might qualify for, and so many other factors.

If you’re concerned about calls or emails, create a throw-away email address and use a fake phone number.

How much is Motorcycle Insurance for M1 in Ontario?

Im thinking of getting an 2012 WR250 for next summer for school, work and just the usual everyday running around, its a really nice looking bike and good on gas!
I have had a dirt bike before so this will be no problem driving it around.
I just wanted to know how much it would be for Insurance If I only have a M1.

Administrator answers:

You need to call a few insurance companies or brokers. They will give you a quote on your experience and the bike you wish to insure.

Chris asks…

How much will i pay per year in motorcycle insurance?

20 years old. No car drivers license, first time rider. planning to take the motorcycle safety foundation 3 day basic rider course. Live in new york city. Looking at a pre 2007 used honda rebel. not looking for an exact quote, just ballpark what i should be expecting.

Administrator answers:

Would expect that the insurance for a new rider will be high…

New riders drop bikes & insurance companies know this..

Look at around.20 – 30 percent of the purchase price as a ball park figure..

Larger capacity bikes .. The percentage goes up astronomically.. 600 sports bikes can be as much as 100 percent..

Mark asks…

How much is motorcycle insurance for a 150cc moped?

I’ve heard some people say $100 a YEAR. And some $250 a MONTH. Big difference. Who is more correct?

And I’m just wanting a rough guess. Not an exact quote. So please no answers for me to contact a local agent. Thanks! :)

Administrator answers:

Pretty inexpensive with a clean driving record. If you have driven a car for some time and have a bad record (tickets, dui, at fault accidents, etc) they will consider that when insuring you. So the cleaner, the better

that said here in SoCal i pay roughly $90 a year for basic liability. That is all you need to ride one. I also have uninsured / under-insured coverage that is around $16 a year, and comprehensive coverage which covers theft, fire, incidental damage, loss….essentially all that “my bike is gone” stuff. That is around $116 a year. I have one other thing, too. But i forget what it is.

Total cost to me is $224 a year. This is with GEICO Powersports insurance, and the value of the scoot (150cc) is $3,500. I have been licensed 17 years and have a spotless driving record. I am also a new rider with just a permit and have NOT taken the MSF course. If i complete the course and become fully licensed i am told my rate will be even lower

Ruth asks…

What do you think would be the cost of motorcycle insurance for me?

I plan to buy a 1980s yamaha virago… I’m 16 years old and only want seasonal insurance (I live in Ontario, Canada). Of course since I’m not 18 it will be on my parents insurance but I will still have to pay with my part time job… The thing is I cant seem to find anywhere online where I can get a quote..

Administrator answers:

Have your parents contact their insurance agent and get a quote.
