Lizzie asks…

Clutch replacement and front wheel replacement for Virago 250?

Hi, I know little about getting motorbikes repaired. Recently someone hit my parked bike and as a result, I will need a new front wheel and tire (the disk brake seems fine) and a new clutch lever and cable installed. My bike is a 2005 model that I recently payed $4000 for and I had no insurance. So I am wondering how big of a job this really is and whether it is worth getting it done considering how much I payed for the bike etc. Oh yeah, I also live in NSW Australia…. I guess mechanics charge differently in other countries etc. Thanks for any info :)

Administrator answers:

Its not a hard job at all, just a few simple bolts nothing more. The hardest part really is balancing the bike up on its back wheel so you can remove the front. If you have a centerstand flip it down, and then use a simple car jack in front of the center stand to rock your bike back. That isn’t the sturdiest of set-ups so be careful, and break free all of your bolts before you balance your bike up like that.
