George asks…

Do your insurance rates go up as soon as you get a driver’s license?

I’m about to turn 16. I want to get my driver‘s license, but my parent’s are wondering if the insurance rate’s are going to go up right away as soon as I get my driver‘s license or do I have to tell my insurance company? Can someone give me a little more information about this? Thank you.

Administrator answers:

Laws differ by State. During the time my son had his learners permit in the St of CT..my insurance did not got up..when he got his license it went up 200 dollars more per month! And that was 4 years ago. Then we added a car at 17 and it was another 200….Being a boy your parents insurance will sky rocket….boys dirve fast and crazy..How many young deaths have you read about by young girls driving a car..I can say in CT NONE in the past 4 years….Young Drivers + Speed = DEATH….read this link: http://www.topix.com/forum/city/wolcott-ct/TJ8UCC7VRQJHPEDP3….This young man liked driving fast…he killed his sister, a friend and him self…his parents only had two children…They now have none…and it was all because this young man LOVED driving fast! I hope you get your license and drive SAFE!
