Your Questions About 1 Day Car Insurance Under 21

April 11, 2013

Sharon asks…

Being declined Apartment/Condo Association?

Ok where to start.

Little background info, I’m 21, currently a student at UM and I’m moving to Miami this month. When I was 16 I got a Reckless Driving ticket (which was supposedly dropped down to a lesser charge. I did not go to Jail, I just paid a bunch of court/state fees if I remember correctly). It does NOT show up on my Insurance (I.E. my insurance is not skyrocket high), and I drive a very expensive sports car.

In June I went and looked at Apartments with my parents, we found a nice place in South Beach so we decided to go for it and rent this apartment. So the same day we checked it out, we filled out an Application for their association (Me AND my father both filled out an application because the lease is going to be in his name, and I’m just another person staying in the apartment [even though I'll be the sole person staying in it] because I’m over 18). Come to find out the next day that I was declined, supposedly because the Reckless Driving ticket is a court appearance required ticket, and it came back that I HAVE been to court, therefore I guess grounds to decline me. I honestly think it’s because I’m a 21 year old, living alone in an apartment on south beach. Whatever the reason be, I found a nice place.

Fast forward to this month. Instead of going through an apartment association, me and my parents decided it was in our best interest (because of my decline) to rent from a condo owner. Blah blah, I checked out various condos with my realtor and I finally found one I liked A LOT. So we put in a bid for the lease and ended up winning. We get the lease, my father and I are both on it. We also get an application for the association (pretty much the same thing I got before). Now this application states that it’s mandatory for anyone 18+ to undergo a background check. My father is the only one filling out an application, and listing me as another resident of the apartment but it also states they need my age and a copy of my drivers license. We plan on bringing the application down sometime this week once we receive the signed lease from the owner (which is required to turn in application to the association). I’m hoping they take his application and don’t even ask me for my SSN (which is not asked on the application under the list of other residents)

Long story short here are my questions now that you have my background information.
1) Is it legal for them to decline me because I went to court for reckless driving? It’s a misdemeanor.
2) Should I lie and give them my incorrect SSN and tell them I just wrote it down wrong?
3) Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to possibly get around the background search, or any recommendations in general?
4) What should I do? lol.

School starts in 3 weeks, and I pretty much NEED to get this place.

Thanks for the help.
Edit; is it possible that they won’t decline me for the reckless driving ticket?

Do some associations look past this?
Also, do you think it would be in my best interest to be upfront about the reckless driving ticket? Or should I just not mention it, let them do the background search and leave the decision up to them?
I do not think it’s a proper reason to be declined acceptance to an association.
I have good credit, a good background, attending a great private university.

Administrator answers:

1. Yes
2. No they will find that the Number does not match your name and you can be charged with Identity Theft
3. Yes, forget the condo and just rent a small apartment without an association. You are never going to pass their background check
4. Rent private in your own name

Robert asks…

what is a good 1st bike for me?

OK so i’m looking to get my 1st bike soon and would like some help on what to get. I am 21 soon to be 22 and for my age i,m really mature. I absolutely do NOT want a super sport i think if you get one as a 1st bike you are a stupid fool who wants to die. I have been really looking at the ninja 250r and cbr 250r as a 1st bike because as a beginner they are a perfect for those who mostly do city driving. I live way out in the back woods and to get into the city iv’e got to drive an hour or so mostly interstate or highway with high speed limits. I am also going to be moving back to florida ( a 11 hour and 700 miles trip) some time in the 1st half of next year and will be riding what ever bike a buy home because i currently don’t own a car.

Now for my 1st bike I really need a good all purpose bike that can handle all my needs as well as handle the interstate no problem. I am also very cautious driver and don’t fuck around while i’m driving. I believe I can safely handle a bigger bike because I do have a little experience on a cbr600rr when i was 16 my buddy would let me ride his bike to the gas station like a block from his house.
As far as i’m concerned i’m a total noob. since i live in LA (state) i have to take the MSF class to get my endorsement so I will have some training before buying my bike.

Now as for my specs I’m 5’9″ tall and weigh 201 ( i know am kinda fat can’t be helped I had surgery over the summer and gained a ton of weight)

The 250cc bikes from what iv’e heard don’t have enough power to ride on the interstate for long periods of time. plus i don’t want to grow tired of it and upgrade to a bigger bike in half a year. I’m no ruling the 250cc bikes out yet because of the ease of use and how noob friendly they are.

now ive been looking at a brand new 2009 ninja 500r that’s for sale for a little under $4,000 and I think it looks old and don’t care for the looks but its double the bike of the ninja 250r and i’m sure it would handle the interstate better than the 250r.

i have been also looking at a 2010 ninja 650r for sale its brand new and and is very low miles and is for sale for $6,000 which im sure i can talk them down some on the price cause where i live no one wants a sport bike. I really like this bike and from what i heard it would make a great 1st bike and handle the interstate no problem. Also from what iv’e been hearing is that it is a good 1st bike because it is a great all around bike and can handle the interstate all day long no problem

these are the 3 sport bikes I was looking at and from what iv’e heard insurance isn’t to bad on them. I’m open to a standard bike or cruiser but would prefer a sport bike. I also don’t want any thing to old because I want a bike I can have for at least 2 years.

I know iv’e written allot but if you could help me focus in on the bike that’s right for me because right now i’m all over the place on what I want and not on what is right for me.

a little recap of what im looking for:
something beginner friendly
probably 08+
prefer sport bike but would be open to a standard or cruiser
good on the interstate
good for long drives
wont blow the bank on insurance
something that I can ride for years and wont be disappointed in
alright so iv’e looked up allot of the bike you guys mentioned and well i live in a dead zone for sport bikes almost nothing within 50 miles of me. the few i found were to high millage for the price they want. so for a sport bike i’m going to be limited to new bikes. I did find some great deals on a couple of ninja 650r, a ninja 500r and a cbr250r.

now i’m not that into standard bikes but after looking up the new 2012 honda rebel i’m seriously considering it in fact i would say its my front runner right now here is why. 1. the motorcycle dealer has them on sale brand new for almost $800 under msrp. 2. it looks amazing in the mate silver I mean wow the thing looks great. 3. from what iv’e heard you cant find a better beginner bike. 4. insurance for it is by far the cheapest of any bike which is a serious plus. 5. It gets the highest gas millage of any bike iv’e seen at 84 mpg!!!! 6. iv’e been looking around and everyone says it can handle the freeway all da
wtf it cut off my additional details so ill start from 6. iv’e been looking around and everyone says it can handle the freeway all day long and a guy on youtube who had a rebel with a windscreen said it can cruise at 80 all day no problem and he still has plenty of power to pass on the freeway when needed he said his bike was stock other than the windscreen.

what do you guys think of the rebel can it handle my height and weight will it give me everything i’m looking for out of a bike. I’m not a cruiser or standard fan but that’s for looks because right now as a beginner i don’t really know what i like.

Administrator answers:

The first thing you need to do is take a few motorcycle lessons because you will NOT be safe unless you have been trained in basic road safety.

The Ninja 250 will do the job but I think you should look at something bigger; 500cc or more with a full fairing. If you can handle the weight of a big bike comfortably (it’s surprising more people don’t drop them, some of them are seriously heavy) then take a look at sports-tourers. My top choices would be the indestructible Honda VFR 800, the ancient but super-comfortable Yamaha FJ 1200 or the amazingly cheap all-rounder Suzuki GSX 750 F.

George asks…

Death of my parents.?

Hi, my parents were both killed in a car accident one week ago. I’m 22 full time college student home for the summer break, I have a 17 year old sister, and a 21 year old brother. I have a couple of questions for you. First, I’m a college student, and obviously, don’t have any money. I need to know what to do. Looking through my parents papers I found they have combined bank accounts worth $100,000, two houses both with one mortgage each, every day bills, and $0 credit card or other outstanding debt. My mom told me a long time ago that they had combined life insurance of over $2 million. $1.5 million on my dad, and $900,000 on my mom. I can’t find any of their life insurance policy papers anywhere. I do know they have life insurance because I have seen the papers before. But I can’t even find a payment to them in either of their checkbooks. Could it come from their work? Also, the mortgage is due, the bills are due, being as it is the beginning of the month, and I’m not sure what to do, how do I get access to their funds to pay the bills, I found a will stating that we all get equal portions of everything, but that is pretty much all it said. But it does not say anything about who is suppose to do what. I am kinda taking charge myself, being as I’m the oldest, my sister is under age, and my brother is kinda a druggy that would not know what he‘s doing. I’m just confused, lost, I don’t know what to do. The little savings I do have it starting to dry up. I just need some kind of guidance. I don’t want things to start getting turned off, or something. I just have no idea where to start or what to do. Anything will help. Thanks.

Administrator answers:

My sincerest condolences for your loss.

You should call that lawyer and discuss these things with him. You said you have a copy of the will, so see who the executor is. That gives information is crucial because that person has a lot of say in what’s going to happen now.

You can also call some of the companies that are owed money and ask for a supervisor/manager. Explain the situation and they will more than likely give you a few more weeks to pay them something.

Your lawyer will be able to provide you with assistance in this. Give him/her a call. Take care.

James asks…

I want to adopt a kitten. help 10 points.?

My old cat had to be put down 4 months ago,she was 11 and now I feel ready to get a new kitten. I had my cat for only 4 years. I adopted her on 21st october 2004 and I had to get her put down on october 21st 2008. I miss her still and I am so lonely. I am 13 now, I had her since I was 9 and she was my best friend. We adopted her from Battersea dogs and cats home in london. I really want to get a kitten, like 12 weeks old. My dad says of course I can, but it must be from a rescue shelter, because it would mean saving a life. I agree with him. But the shelters will only let us have 2 kittens unless they are over 6 months. Any kittens under 6 months must be homed with another kitten. My family can only afford the upkeep of 1 cat, as the vet bill for my old cat was well over £1000. And we had insurance! If we had 2 cats and they both got ill like my old one did (cancer and kidney failure and went blind possibly had diabeties) there would be no way we could pay double everything for up to 20 years. What can I do? No shelters will let me get a kitten under 6 months, but really want a young one so I can see it grow up and be with it for ages, I didnt get nearly enough time with my old cat :-( . I cant get a kitten from a breeder or a petshop. I am only allowed from a shelter. How can I get one 12 week old kitten from a shelter?? My mum works part time, and my dad does shift work, my brother goes to college and has breaks during the day and I am out for only 7 hours a day on school days so there is always someone at home. But we live in an aparement with very east access to a very nice courtyard with a residents garden where no cars can go and only cats and smaller pes are allowed (no dogs or vehicles). All the cat has to do is walk down a flight of stairs and out between some wide spaced bars and its in the gardens! My cat was going out there on the 5th week and waiting for me after school…
jc…I tried the rspca and they said they only home kittens in pairs

I am so sorry you have lost your cat, I know just how you feel ~ I lost my cat Ringo just over two years ago to throat cancer he was 13 years old and I had had him from 8 weeks old and it took me a good few months before I could get another cat which I got from a farm ~ he is a lovely cat (Pepsi) who I have had for just over a year ~ I too wanted a cat from a shelter but because I live on a very busy road on The TT course I wanted an indoor cat and the shelter would not let me have one ~ Pepsi was about 9 weeks old when I go him and even though he was from a farm he has settled in very well as an indoor cat ~ Good luck with getting a new kitten and I hope you are as happy with your new kitten as I am with Pepsi
